Diego Milito struck twice in the 2010 UEFA Champions League final for Inter Inter striker Diego Milito has been selected as the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year at the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco. The veteran striker scored crucial goals for the treble winners in Europe's top competition, including two in the final against Bayern Munich.

FC Internazionale Milano striker Diego Milito has been named the 2010 UEFA Club Forward of the Year, claiming the honour ahead of FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Manchester United FC's Wayne Rooney as part of the draw ceremony for the UEFA Champions League group stage in Monaco.

Milito becomes the first Inter player to collect the award since inaugural winner Ronaldo in 1998, with the intervening years producing six winners from the Spanish Liga. Raúl González won three on the trot from 2000 in recognition for his scoring exploits for Real Madrid CF, while Messi became the third Barcelona forward to pick up the trophy last year, succeeding Ronaldinho (2005) and Samuel Eto'o (2006).

"It's a beautiful award," said Milito, who struck twice in the 2010 UEFA Champions League final against FC Bayern München. "It makes me proud, but it's also something I want to share with many people – with my family, my wife and my kids but also with the rest of my team, who did something special last season, something extraordinary. The final in Madrid is a day I'll never forget."

Wesley Sneijder has been named the 2010 UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year, edging out FC Barcelona's Xavi Hernández and FC Bayern München winger Arjen Robben to claim the award as part of the draw ceremony for the UEFA Champions League group stage in Monaco.

Zinédine Zidane (1998) and David Beckham (1999) were the first two winners in this category. Former Valencia CF playmaker Gaizka Mendieta won it twice along with Deco, the Portuguese international triumphing in the colours of both FC Porto and FC Barcelona. Taking over from last year's winner, Sneijder becomes the first Dutch international to claim the honour since Clarence Seedorf in 2007.

The gifted playmaker hit six match-winning goals over the 2009/10 campaign and the equaliser in the UEFA Champions League semi-final home win against FC Barcelona, before then setting up Diego Milito's opener in the final. "It was an amazing year," he said. "To play in such a fantastic team was incredible; you get to do your thing and show your skills. You cannot win this prize without your team-mates. I'm very happy."

FC Internazionale Milano right-back Maicon received the 2010 award, finishing ahead of team-mate Lúcio and Gerard Piqué of FC Barcelona in the voting.

FC Internazionale Milano right-back Maicon has been voted the 2010 UEFA Club Defender of the Year, claiming the award ahead of team-mate Lúcio and FC Barcelona's Gerard Piqué during the draw ceremony for the UEFA Champions League group stage in Monaco.

Maicon becomes the first Brazilian international to receive the honour since Roberto Carlos in 2003. He will now be hoping to match his predecessor by celebrating a pair of successes, a feat matched by Manchester United FC's Jaap Stam and surpassed only by three-time winner John Terry of Chelsea FC. Other esteemed names on the list of previous incumbents include inaugural winner Fernando Hierro and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

A rampaging full-back, Maicon hit six goals for Inter during 2009/10, helping them dominate the Italian domestic scene and clinch the UEFA Champions League. "I'm very happy about last season overall; for me and all my team-mates," he told UEFA.com. "To then become the second Brazilian defender to win this award after a player like Roberto Carlos makes me very proud."

FC Internazionale Milano goalkeeper Júlio César has picked up the award for 2010, seeing off competition from Hugo Lloris (Olympique Lyonnais) and Víctor Valdés (FC Barcelona).

FC Internazionale Milano No1 Júlio César has been named the 2010 UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year, collecting the award as part of the draw ceremony for the UEFA Champions League group stage in Monaco.

Having beaten Hugo Lloris of Olympique Lyonnais and FC Barcelona's Víctor Valdés to the honour, the Brazilian international joins a select club, with Manchester United FC's Peter Schmeichel claiming the inaugural award in 1998 before Oliver Kahn dominated with four successive triumphs. The FC Bayern München keeper was followed onto the leaderboard by Petr Čech, the Chelsea FC keeper, who was denied a fourth award in 2009 by Edwin van dar Sar.

Júlio César was an ever-present for Inter in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, and kept 25 clean sheets in a historic treble-winning season for the Nerazzurri. "It's very gratifying to win," he told UEFA.com. "Winning the Champions League is great on its own, but then to add an individual award makes it extraordinary because it will sit there for the rest of your career. Being compared to the great goalkeepers who have won it in the past is a reason to be very proud."

UNOSDP receives Monaco Charity AwardWilfried Lemke receives a cheque for €1m from Michel Platini

The 2010 UEFA Monaco Charity Award of €1m has been presented to the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP).

The prize – following a decision by the UEFA Fair Play and Social Responsibility Committee – was handed over by UEFA president Michel Platini to Wilfried Lemke, special adviser to the United Nations secretary-general on sport for development and peace, during the UEFA Club Football Awards and UEFA Champions League group stage draw on Thursday.

Inter monopolise UEFA Club Football Awards

FC Internazionale Milano players won all five UEFA Club Football Awards with Diego Milito named UEFA Club Footballer of the Year and Júlio César, Maicon and Wesley Sneijder honoured.

FC Internazionale Milano have achieved a clean sweep of the 2010 UEFA Club Football Awards at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, the first time such a feat has been achieved since the awards' inception in 1998.

Diego Milito, who scored both goals in Internazionale's 2-0 UEFA Champions League final defeat of FC Bayern München in Madrid in May, secured the overall prize as UEFA Club Footballer of the Year, voted for, like all these accolades, by the coaches of the teams that reached the round of 16 last season. The 12 nominees for the four positional awards were all eligible for the main honour.

Milito was also named UEFA Club Forward of the Year, emulating the double claimed by Ronaldo for Inter in 1998, after beating off fellow nominees Lionel Messi – who lifted both prizes in 2009 – and Wayne Rooney. Both individual trophies were fully merited according to another UEFA Champions League final hero, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was Manchester United FC's match-winner against Bayern in 1999.

"Of course you have talent and all the best players have talent, but what sets the best players apart from the others is the attitude, the determination and work rate, and that's what impressed me with Inter last season and not just Milito," he told UEFA.com. "Of course when you get the bonus of scoring two goals in the final, I think his work rate made him deserve that as well.

"They were top-class goals," continued Solskjær. "In a final any goal you score is [great] but he took them really, really well and that shows not only determination but that he has the mental strength and toughness of playing in big games. It is one thing to be talented and play well in the easy games but when you go to the big games and do that, that shows strength of character."

Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder took the plaudits as UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year, for which his Netherlands colleague Arjen Robben and Xavi Hernández were also nominated. Full-back Maicon was voted the UEFA Club Defender of the Year, a category in which his Nerazzurri team-mate Lúcio was a nominee along with Gerard Piqué. And Júlio César completed the Inter clean sweep, getting the nod as UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year ahead of Hugo Lloris and Víctor Valdés.
